Sweden and UNESCO

The delegation represents Sweden in UNESCO, promotes Swedish positions at UNESCO and reports on the organisation's activities in areas of interest to Sweden. The delegation is particularly focusing on Swedish interests in prioritised areas, for example on human rights, including the right to education, freedom of speech and the safety of journalists.

The daily work consists of observing and negotiating on behalf of Sweden in the meetings at UNESCO. Much of the work is carried out in cooperation with the EU delegation and the delegations of the other Nordic countries to UNESCO.

The Swedish delegation consists of diplomats and locally engaged staff who work closely with the Government Offices of Sweden, other Swedish authorities, in particular the International Development Cooperation agency SIDA, and the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO.
